This lion design has been in the pipeline since I first started Rock The Panda in 2018 and in that year I also sourced the lighter golden marble pearl acrylic from a supplier in the US. Lions are an animal that is close to my heart and I've depicted them in acrylic paintings a couple of times. These paintings have provided inspiration over the past few years. The lion face is made from gold metallic acrylic, pearlescent Perspex with black details and golden mirror eyes, whilst the mane is made from a caramel coloured acrylic, light golden pearl marble acrylic framed with a beautiful rich brown/gold/milky brown mixed acrylic that has a lot of variation from sheet to sheet, all backed onto 3mm rust brown acrylic which tones in perfectly. The necklaces will be chosen at random for orders. Take a look at the group shot of the lion heads to get an idea of variation. The triangular sections running through the chain are loosely inspired by African patterns as I felt the lion had a real African vibe about it and I wanted to bring it out further. The brown acrylic framing is made from the underneath of the darker acrylic in the lion so it tones in well. It is however limited as I believe the way the sheets are made has changed slightly so this piece will be limited to around 20. The black and gold triangular sections are all cut and placed in the centre of the triangles.
The lion measures approximately h87mm x w77mm and the necklace is being worn at the shortest length on the photos. The chain is made from black vacuum plated stainless steel and measures approximately 42.5cm (including the triangular sections but it also comes with a 10cm extender chain. I chose a black chain to coordinate with the black of the triangles and to contrast the gold in the lion but it is possible to put it on a gold plated chain and gold plated findings if you send me an Etsy message. It would be the same main chain and the one I used in my folk owl statement necklace. Just be careful not to knock plated chains against really hard surfaces as the plate may chip of slightly. Chains can also be lengthened if requested via the order notes.
Note that there is a little variation in the mane acrylic (see photo of a batch) but as mentioned above it is particularly the darker acrylic. All work is solely done by Rock The Panda designer and maker Ruth Anna Moore in Sheffield, United Kingdom.
The necklace has the Rock The Panda logo and year made engraved on the back and comes in it's own box. Please ignore the line on the lions head in the video. That is the prototype necklace.
£2 will be donated to WWF from each piece sold between 16/08/22 - 23/08/22
All Rock The Panda designs will be limited. They won't ever be mass produced.
Important Info -
Due to my works handmade nature and the fact that some of the acrylic sheet is handmade itself, there will be slight differences in each piece and may be minor imperfections.
Stainless steel is very resilient to tarnish but it may darken slightly over time. Acrylic can be quite delicate. Handle with care, clean with a soft microfibre cloth and keep your brooch/necklace in the box provided when not being worn. Each piece is water resistant but not waterproof. Please don't immerse in water. Some acrylic, particularly pearl marble acrylic can deteriorate with time (years usually). The surface becomes sort of pitted. This can't be avoided unfortunately.
Safety Information -
Rock The Panda jewellery is not a toy. Please keep out of reach of children under 3 years old due to small parts and a potential choking hazard. Chains on necklaces may be a strangulation hazard, particularly if they get entangled or caught on other objects. Wear with care. Brooch pins may cause pricking injury if mishandled. Handle with care, keep them pinned to the foam pad provided or on clothes when worn. If the acrylic of a product is broken from eg. dropping, sharp edges may occur and may cause injury such as cuts and scratches if mishandled whilst loose pieces may be a choking hazard.
Rock The Panda jewellery is also not suitable for children under 12 years old.
The chains and findings used comply with British and European nickel release regulations (REACH Standards)
